Warehouse Bird Netting: Protecting Stock, Machinery and Audits

How industrial bird netting is designed and installed in warehouses and factories — span planning, fixing methods, food-safety compliance and downtime.

By SS Netting Solution ·

Bird netting installed under a warehouse roof over storage bays

In a warehouse, birds are not a nuisance — they are a compliance and inventory problem. Droppings contaminate packaging, nests block sprinkler heads and light fittings, and any food, pharma or FMCG audit will flag active bird activity immediately.

Where the net goes

  • Under the truss line — the most common approach, creating a clean ceiling plane above the racking.
  • Across side openings and roof ventilators — sealing the entry points instead of the whole ceiling.
  • Localised bays — over packing lines, dispatch areas or a single production hall.

How it is fixed

Perimeter 4–6 mm steel wire rope is anchored to the structure with turnbuckles for tension, and the net is laced to the cable at close intervals. Tension matters more than net strength: a slack net sags into lights and eventually tears at the fixing points.

Working around operations

Most of our warehouse installations run in phases, bay by bay, often on night or weekend shifts so dispatch is never stopped. Rope-access and mobile-platform teams work above racking without unloading stock.

What to specify in your enquiry

  • Clear covered area in sq ft and eave height.
  • Roof type — curved sheet, north-light truss or RCC.
  • Whether the area is food-grade or audited.
  • Existing bird load and whether cleaning is needed first.

We survey the site, mark the fixing plan against your roof drawing, and quote a fixed rate per sq ft including cable, hardware and access equipment.

Frequently asked

Will installation stop our operations?

No. We phase the work bay by bay and can run night or weekend shifts.

Is netting acceptable for food-grade facilities?

Yes — physical exclusion netting is the preferred bird control method in food-safety audits because it uses no chemicals or poisons.
