Invisible Grill vs Traditional Iron Grill: An Honest Comparison

Iron grills have protected Indian balconies for fifty years. Invisible grills are the newer answer to the same problem, and they win on almost everything except upfront cost.

Safety

A proper invisible grill uses 316-grade stainless steel cable of 2.5–3 mm, tensioned at roughly 3-inch vertical spacing inside an aluminium frame. Each cable carries a high breaking load, and the narrow spacing means a child cannot pass through or get a head stuck — a real failure mode of wide-spaced iron grills.

View and light

Thin cables all but disappear against the sky. You keep the full balcony view, natural light and airflow. This is the single reason most of our customers switch.

Maintenance

• Iron grill: repainting every 2–3 years, rust bleeding onto the facade, welding repairs.
• Invisible grill: wipe-down cleaning, no rust with genuine 316 cable, no repainting.

Cost and building rules

Iron grills start cheaper. Invisible grills run ₹230–₹300 per sq ft installed, and the cost evens out once you count repainting and rust repairs. A practical bonus: most housing societies and municipal facade rules accept invisible grills because they do not change the building elevation, whereas projected iron grills are frequently objected to.

If your priority is the view and your society is strict about facade changes, the invisible grill is the easier approval.
