Construction Safety Nets: Site Compliance Without Slowing the Build

Every multi-storey site needs two different protections: one that catches a person, and one that catches material. They are not the same product, and confusing them is a common — and expensive — site error.

Fall-arrest nets

Heavy knotted or knotless mesh rigged horizontally below the working level, designed to arrest a falling worker. Rigging height, sag allowance and clearance below the net are all part of the design, not afterthoughts. These nets are inspected regularly and replaced after any arrest event.

Debris and scaffold netting

Fine vertical mesh wrapped around scaffolding to contain dust, tools and small material from falling to the public footpath. It also reduces complaints from neighbouring buildings, which matters on dense city sites.

Vertical facade screens

Full-height screens on the building perimeter, moving upward with the slab cycle. Planning the anchor points into the slab edge at casting stage is far cheaper than drilling them later.

• Share the slab cycle plan so netting moves with the build rather than blocking it.
• Fix anchor inserts at casting stage wherever possible.
• Keep a documented inspection log — auditors and insurers both ask for it.
• Budget for replacement, not just installation: netting is consumable on an active site.
